FAQs

1. How do hiring assessments work?

This is a complex topic, but let’s state a few principles. One, there are 3 main kinds of assessments in the world: those that capture what people know; those that capture how people feel about things; and those that capture how people take action. All 3 can be used to improve the hiring process. Moreover, any job can be “benchmarked” for desired behavioral traits, and these benchmarks can be used in the hiring process. The purpose is to provide additional data about the candidate that isn’t likely to surface in an interview.

2. Why use assessments with teams?

Some teams struggle with drama, reducing productivity and morale. Assessing an entire team using, for example, DISC or Kolbe, enables a team to learn a couple of really important things. One, it creates sensitivity to why some people struggle to communicate with one another. It helps them to recognize and adapt to the different work styles that each of us brings to the office. Two, it gives a team a new language it can use to diagnose teamwork problems. Three, team debriefs are great “team building” exercises, fun, informative and bonding.

3. What is a leadership assessment?

I think one of the most important tools here is an EQ assessment. There’s a high correlation between leaders who possess high EQ and leadership success. DISC, Kolbe, Strengths Finders and others are also useful in developing future leaders.
